My BAMMA Pictures In Nuts Magazine

I know it’s hardly the height of the publishing world, but here is a scan of my pictures published in the October 2010 edition of Nuts magazine. I was working as the photographer for the BAMMA promotion photographing the main fight between Alex Reid and Tom Watson. Nuts magazine were sponsoring the event and held a competition to find the BAMMA ring girl. So they were keen to use the candid picture of the winner, Brandy Brewer, inside the cage.

Photography Advice / Tips

I’ve decided to add another new section to my website which is (surprise, surprise) photography advice and tips. As a photographer it is great to have an online presence with a portfolio to help attract potential new clients. However it is always good to give something back to the (photographic) community (and this is me hopefully doing just that). Striking a balance is the hard part as obviously I don’t want to confuse and put off any potential new commercial photography clients.

Bill Nighy

On Saturday I didn’t have any freelance photography jobs to keep me out of trouble so I escaped from Essex and headed up to East London to do some street photography around Whitechapel and Brick Lane. After a morning on the street I then moved on towards the West End to indulge in being a bit of a tourist and to eat an overpriced burger. Whilst walking around Seven Dials in Covent Garden I saw a lot of people standing around outside the Donmar Warehouse Theatre. Being a curious (it killed the cat you know) photographer I moved in to see what was going on and caught sight of the very cool British TV and film actor Bill Nighy chatting to fans and signing autographs.

10 Street Photography Tips For Beginners

Street photography has been experiencing a revival in recent times, especially in London, which has recently seen a London Street Photography Exhibition at the Museum Of London and the inaugural Street Photography Festival at sites around London. Even with overzealous security guards and police officers wrongly throwing around anti terrorism laws at unsuspecting photographers (you’d think terrorism was something new in the UK) it seems more and more people are taking an interest in street photography. So I thought it would be good to pass on some of my experience in the form of ten street photography tips for beginners.

Competition – Eyewitness Photography

The Royal Academy Of Arts in London has just opened submissions for the 2011 Eyewitness Photography competition. Photographers can enter in the four categories: street life, fashion, portraits or abstract subjects. Obviously I’ll be entering some of my Street Photography into the street life part of the competition.

Thursday Pride

Had a nice little surprise yesterday when some of my pictures from this year’s Gay Pride event in London were reviewed on the photography section of the Guardian website. Seeing your photography on a national newspapers website and having some kind comments from the guys and girls on the picture desk is fantastic and a huge confidence boost.

Random Mumblings

Well my photography site has been live for a while now so I thought it would be a good idea to look at its current health. Since its inception in February I’ve had 1,451 visitors mainly from Flickr, Twitter and of course Google. Really I would like to get around 1,000 visitors a month, even if 1 or 2% then became clients then my photography portfolio would be working well for me. However the photography business is never that straight forward.
